In the Mens +100kgs Shinchi Shinohara (JPN) is out to prove he is the top heavyweight in the world, but there's a hungry new young Russian on the block, and his name is Alexander Mikhaline. Can anyone stop the incredible Kosei Inoue (JPN) taking the -100 kgs title? Only Antal Kovacs (HUN) has beaten him recently. Can he do it again? At -90kgs Mark Huizinga (NED) is the favourite but everyone is gunning for him. The -81kgs is packed with stars: The World Champion Graeme Randall (GBR), the European Champion Aleksei Budolin (EST), and former World Champions In-chul Cho (KOR) and Kenzo Nakamura (JPN) go head to head in a superb category.
In the women's categories the fighter to beat in the +78kgs is the exceptional Olympic Champion Hua Yuan from China. The -78kgs sees a return to form for Noriko Anno (JPN) but can she overcome the new young Cuban, Yurisel Laborde? Who will emerge victor in the -70kgs: Belgium's Ulla Werbrouck, Britain's Kate Howey or Japan's Masae Ueno? In the -63kgs Gella Vandecaveye (BEL) is on form and looking for another World title. Can she overcome the Cuban and Spanish opposition?
