Judo development is a long, complex, and difficult journey. The development dials can be used to reflect and adjust a judoka’s program to meet their ever-changing needs. They are designed to help get the right balance for the individual. The dials represent principles of development that live concurrently, can often be in tension with each other, and need
managed. That is, dialled up or down on a regular basis depending on the situation.
Judoka, supporting families, and coaches may experience tensions on their journey. We hope the development dials aid discussion to make sense of a situation and help navigate decisions. We encourage families and coaches to continually make decisions with their child/judoka to try and get the balance about right for them.
