Welcome to Hungary and its capital city Budapest, it's a destination which has a special place in its heart for the sport of Judo and which now steps up to host the 2021 World Championships under the difficult conditions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
It has been a difficult time, but the world judo family has shown remarkable perseverance to keep tournaments running and on the eve of the event here in Budapest, Mr Marius Vizer was unanimously re-elected as President of the IJF as he looks to continue revolutionising the sport.
The scene for the championships would be the Laszlo Papp arena, which thankfully had guidelines in place to be able to host a small crowd.
With robust protocols in place to keep everyone safe, 14 individual world titles and the mixed team title were contested for the viewing pleasure of sports fans all around the world, as the stars of the World Judo tour boasting both their physical prowess and the unique code of honour which distinguishes our sport.
After a mesmerizing opening ceremony proceedings got underway, who would triumph during this unique World Championships?
