Kouchi gari is a key technique in Kirill Denisov’s judo.
The five time World medallist uses Kouchi not only to score, but to destabilise opponents and to set up his major throws.
He mainly uses it when up against right handed opponents, and as well as a classical Kouchi, he has two other main variations.
His double tap Kouchi.
And his skipping variation, which is one of his most successful Ashi waza in competition.
This technique comes from tricking the opponent into attempting a foot-sweep, and then beating them to the attack.
Denisov initiates a skipping action, which tempts the opponent into attacking with De ashi barai, so he has to be really quick with his feet in order to throw first with Kouchi gari.
Now, for the first time, you can learn both of these unique variations of Kouchi gari. Understand the intricacies and fine margins, as Denisov teaches you how to be successful with this classical Ashi waza.
And then there’s a chance to see this great Russian heavyweight making this technique work at the world’s biggest competitions.
